NY Yankees Stand Up for Tuesday's Promise
Updated: Sep 29
Over the past few weeks, the Tuesday's Promise community has been spending a lot of time in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. What started as a plan between the Yankees and Mets to honor the 25th anniversary of September 11th, grew into an outpouring of community engagement and support for our mission and our families.
We kicked things off with a volunteer activity on September 2nd. Through a generous grant from 9/11 Day in partnership with AmeriCorps and with additional support from Tradeweb and the Yankees, Tuesday’s Promise brought our community together at Yankee Stadium for a meaningful day of service honoring 9/11 first responders and their families who continue to navigate the lasting impacts of 9/11.
Volunteers from the Yankees, Salesforce, and our own community assembled care kits filled with items like socks, hand sanitizer, activity books, and snacks to provide comfort, gratitude, and support. The kits were shared with responders and their families at the annual naming ceremony on September 12th at 9/11 Responders Remembered Memorial Park in Long Island and with responders currently being treated for 9/11-related illnesses through the FDNY Family Transport Unit throughout the 5 boroughs.

Next up, we gathered on September 10th for the annual "Kids-Only Press Conference". Children and grandchildren from our community had the opportunity to lead the pre-game press conference with players Gerrit Cole, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and David Bednar. Questions like "When you were my age, what were you afraid of?", "If you didn't play baseball, what job would you do instead?", "What would you say to your 10-year-old self?" The kids were thrilled to meet the players and hear their answers, as well as share time with each other, the players, and celebrate Gerrit Cole's birthday!

Finally, we finished out our time at Yankee Stadium attending each of the Subway Series games on September 11th-13th. Over 150 family members were able to attend the games and the Yankees honored our organization during the pre-game ceremonies. Our families truly treasured this time together.
